Introduction

I recommend you to see this programme (Madrileños por el mundo) so that you know how is life is Puerto Rico, and I think is very interesting although is 1 hour long and is in spanish.
They speak mainly about tourism and population, however they speak about the relation with this country and spain and how columbus discobered it.

People

  • The main religion in Puerto Rico is the Catholic (85%) and the protestans (8%)
  • Official languages are english and spanish

  • 3,638,484 people born in Puerto Rico.
  • 3,846,054 native people.
  • In 2014 there where 400.04 people per square kilometer.
  • The birth rate there is low because we have anticonceptives and access to education so that we need more years to study and we need to setle aour lives and then we have babies.
  • The mortality rate is low because people die when they become older.
  • Natural growth is low because is directly proportional to the birrth rate.

Migrations

  • There are 8,000 spanish inmigrants in Puerto Rico.
  • In 2000-2010 there were 311,198 emigrants in Puerto Rico.
  • In 2006 there was a recesion in economy so migration started growinng.

Geography

  • Puerto Rico is located in the Caribbean sea, between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean sea, east of the Dominican republic, 1,000miles southeast of Miami.
  • Coordinates: Latitude 18º 15'' N Longitude 66º 30'' W.
  • The nations that border the country are: Dominican republic, US Virgin islands, Venezuela, Bahamas and USA.
  • The island of Enchantment.
  • 300 miles of beaches.
  • Gorgeous caves.
  • Great mountains.
  • Tropical weather and landscapes.
  • Desert forest with cactus.

  • There is a 12.2% of unemployment rate in Puerto Rico.
  • Primary sector: 0.8%, secondary sector: 50.7%, tertiary and quaternary sectors: 48.3%.
  • 55% of electricity comes from petroleum, 28% from natural gas, 16% comes from coal and 1% from renewable energy.
